Dovid, believed to be in line to replace Ronit’s father, notices a growing intimacy between his old friend and wife, which soon causes fissures, not only in the marriage, but across the wider community. Sebastián Lelio’s film, like Alderman’s novel, sensitively explores life in a closed community, eschewing judgement in favour of a call for tolerance and acceptance.
